When I first looked at KLM’s Royal Dutch Airlines dream destinations, I had so many ideas running through my mind. I was thinking about going to Hawaii, because I’ve always dreamed about showing this place which means so much to me to Alex.

Also I was thinking about going to Aruba, because I was dreaming about swimming with flamingos (obviously ;)). But after thinking back and forth, I decided to explore a place which is not the typical holiday destination: Havana. Neither of my friends and family has been in Cuba before (and both my sisters love traveling as much as I do) and ever since Cuba has started to open up, I saw more and more pictures and I was dreaming about visiting the Caribbean island as long as it has its imperfect, old school flair. I was flying from Hamburg with KLM Royal Dutch Airlines and I had one of the best flight experiences ever. My favorite flights are those, where you feel good and cozy and you fall asleep, waking up just to have a last meal before already arriving. The flight time from Amsterdam to Havana was about eight hours which to me is perfectly fine. Ever since I arrived in Havana all my senses are activated. Havana is probably the most inspiring city I’ve ever seen in terms of photography. I can get lost in the corners, seeing old fashioned houses and oldtimer cars everywhere. Still, I’ve never been in a place which is so unorganized. Even though I’ve been to similar countries, there has always been some kind of a system to which tourists can quickly adopt. When finding a place which is comparable to a supermarket here, you will find lots of alcoholic drinks, lemonades but no water. Which for me seems to be super confusing. Also you have two different currencies – one for tourists and one for locals. The moment I found a few places which are selling vegetarian options (which somehow is a bit emotional as a vegetarian ;)), I started to get into the Havana lifestyle.
As it’s already day five, I loved the idea to share some first impressions with you. Alex and I are staying in the center of Havana. To the right we can directly explore Old Havana (which is my favorite area :-)) and Habana Center. Old Havana has many hidden treasures. Around Plaza Vieja there is the most touristy and lively part I’ve seen so far. As I’m such a coffee junkie I can spent hours searching for nice coffee shops, especially because Cuban coffee is super yummy. They add a little cinnamon and the flavor is just perfect. I love the Museo de Chocolate because they sell little chocolate figures and there is always a little churros shop in the front of the shop. My favorite veggie restaurant is Café Bohemian which is in a hidden corner of Plaza Vieja. My happiest moment so far was enjoying an evening out with Alex at La Guarida. La Guerida is in Havana Center and when you enter the building you find the most charming old interior. Little stairways bring you all the way up to a restaurant, a bar and a rooftop where you have a breathtaking view of the city. I had an amazing avocado salad with sweet potatoes and as a dessert we shared a three cholate cake fondue and it as one of the best things I ever had. Ja Havanna ist schon was besonderes. Vor allem diese Gegensätze wenn man um eine Ecke läuft sind krass. Wir haben auf unserer Kuba Rundreise einige Dinge gelernt, zum Beispiel ganz oft flexibel sein. 😉

Die Fotos sind ein Traum! Ich hatte Havanna bis vor Kurzem nie wirklich als Urlaubsort auf dem Zettel, aber die Stadt sieht einfach nur traumhaft aus! Allein schon wegen deiner Kaffee-Beschreibung muss ich unbedingt nach Havanna;D So lecker!

Ich weiß genau, was du meinst! Gestern hatte ich in einer Straße so ein ungutes Gefühl und dann hat mich im Gehen jemand von hinten auf die Schulter gefasst und ich bin vor Schreck fast tot umgefallen :O Und flexibel sein trifft es sehr gut, wenn ich mal die Wartezeiten alleine beim Flughafen aufaddiere 😀 <3

Oh ja Cuba und vor allem Havanna sind schon sehr speziell, ein Ort an dem die Zeit stehen geblieben zu sein scheint. Ich war vor drei Jahren selbst dort und war manchmal fast ein wenig überfordert aufgrund der ganzen Eindrücke.
Deine Bilder sind mal wieder absolut atemberaubend.

Unheimliche schöne Eindrucke, liebe Leonie! Meine Großeltern waren im Frühjahr auf Kuba und haben mich seitdem angesteckt, dort möchte ich unbedingt noch hin – vielleicht gerade weil es sich dort anzufühlen scheint, als ob die Zeit stehen geblieben sei! Mit KLM hab ich auch nur positive Erfahrungen gemacht, bin mit denen auf einmal Langstrecke geflogen und war von dem Service und der Freundlichkeit begeistert!
