MFW FW17 RECAP I MILAN

MFW FW17 RECAP I MILAN

The Milan fashion week fall/winter was surely the most exciting one that I was lucky to be a part of so far. My schedule was so busy that I – as far as Milan traffic allowed it and it usually didn’t 😉 – rushed from one show, to an event, to another show. I barely had time to catch my breath and let the things that I have and experienced sink in. Now that I am sitting here writing this post, I become aware of just how many great shows I was allowed to witness and how much inspiration I have collected from them. Also to make amends for the fact that in all the fashion week craziness it has become a bit more quite on the blog, I have collected here my impressions and favorite looks from all the shows I attended during MFW. I hope you feel some of the inspiration I felt in this beautiful, vivid city! Xx Leonie

FENDI

Karl Lagerfeld once more artfully combined elements of different fabrics such as velvet, lace and wool into harmonious looks that are both wearable and extravagant. Using transparency, patent leather and knit the Fendi collection integrated both soft feminine and harsh male elements. The earth colors of the looks made me think of falling leaves and I nearly wished fall was just around the corner (and I am a summer girls through and through and, thus, that rarely happens) so that I could snatch some of the pieces off the runway and throw them on immediately. I simply loved the overknee boots and there was one velvet wine red pair that I am still dreaming about longingly! 😉

ERMANNO SCERVINO

Ermanno Scervino put a show on the runway that was all about contrast: the contrast between lace dresses and military jackets, of belted slim waists and oversized coats, of flowery prints and clean cuts. And artfully Ermanno Scervino managed that each of these contrasts matched perfectly. In shades of black, white, red, blue and khaki this was a line that was both wearable and innovative and – most of all – truly beautiful!

MISSONI

Missoni is a brand for women who are not scared of being seen – and heard. With its iconic mixtures of colors and prints this season’s line was as always joyful, strong, positive and entwined with a scream for women’s rights. For me Missoni epitomizes the self-confident, strong but fun-loving woman and if that is not a reason to love the brand than what is?

SALVATORE FERRAGAMO

Different from other fall/winter lines that are often presented in more earthy and subdued colors, the Salvatore Ferragamo line featured a more lively color palette of blush blue, cream and bright pink and orange. Classic looks were adorned with leo-prints, long gloves and voluminous collars. A line fit not only for rainy November but also for unpredictable April days that are in desperate need of some color!

ETRO

You all know that I love to travel. Therefore, it might not come as a surprise to you that the travel inspired Etro designs are always some of my favorites. This season Veronica Etro took us on a trip to the Himalayas (a place I have never been in person) with her “Paisley Tribe” collection. It was a spectacular journey featuring a bright color palate, joyful Nepalese inspired patterns and playful stitches on the typical flowing Etro dresses and the sometimes trekking inspired jackets. I am in love!

SPORTMAX

Sportmax fall/winter line delivered what the brand’s name promised: looks for the sportive, modern, strong woman. Featuring clean cuts, fresh colors with shades of white, black, orange, and blue, the collection is beautiful in its simplicity and I would love love love to get my hands on any of those coats once summer has come and passed!

VERSACE

Donatella Versace’s looks are often a bit tougher and more – excuse my language but it is the perfect description – badass than many other designers’ I adore. As always this season’s Versace line was about the combination of femininity seen in flowery prints and fitted silhouettes and masculine elements featuring oversized pieces, and broad shoulders. Versace’s hats spelled out what her clothes aim to empower in women: courage, strength but also loyalty and equality. Statement pieces in the true meaning of the word!

FAY
Fay’s fall/winter line is tough, dark, and strong. Redefining femininity Tommaso Aquilano and Roberto Rimondi combined slim silhouettes, flower prints and short skirts with leather, biker and punk pieces, while black was the dominating color on the runway. Despite the elegance and practicality of the looks, they overall had a strong “don’t mess with me” attitude. I personally believe that every woman should have a nice pair of leather pants to nurse her inner wilder side, so well done Fay! ☺

MAX MARA

Season after season Max Mara remains the epitome of female elegance and luxurious simplicity. The Max Mara fall/winter line is the kind of no-silly-nonsense line that shows confidence in its brand’s well-tried fashion fundamentals while subtly incorporating creative and contemporary new details without needing to go for flashy fashion trends. Model after model presented a tone-in-tone look in modest shades of black, camel, beige and red featuring what Max Mara knows best: the most beautiful and elegant coats around. Can I have one please?
