BREAKFAST & COFFEE

SOUL

Vegan café with beautifully decorated, delicious breakfast & brunch.

I discovered this vegan new hot spot during my recent stay and it immediately became a favourite! It’s the kind of vegan breakfast place I was missing in Hamburg: cute restaurant space, a menu which easily competes with the restaurants in London, creative, nicely decorated and super delicious. They only serve six dishes but there’s nothing missing! My favourites were the scrambled tofu bowl and the oat rice pudding with caramelized bananas, fruits and nut butter! I also had the best coconut iced latte and the vegan chocolate cheesecake is the best ever!!

NORD COAST ROASTERY

Amazing coffee roasters with big breakfast menu & charming views.

When looking for a breakfast spot in a cool location with lots of options (vegan and non-vegan): Nord Coast Roastery near the historical Speicherstadt is the place to be! I love the views overlooking the old houses, the rustic interior and even for vegans there are amazing options such as smoothie bowls, vegan waffles & vegan avocado paninis! They are coffee roasters so you’ll also find a great selection of coffee options. They have a second Café in Eppendorf which is also nice, but I love the original one the most.

AENDRÈ

Vegan cafe with healthy and nutritious options for a quick breakfast or brunch.

Aendre is fairly new and it’s not a place where you fall in love with the happy vibe and charm, but somehow you still always want to come back for the easy but addictive food! They serve breakfast bowls in the morning and Buddha bowls in the afternoon. They have two smoothie bowls, bircher and hot porridge, and amazing toppings which are the best thing about the cafe: tahini and chocolate rawnola, coconut yoghurt, homemade nut butter and seasonal fruits such as rhubarb. They prepare the breakfast super fast and you can also take it with you.

PALEDO

Superfood restaurant with lots of vegan friendly paleo dishes.

This used to be my absolute number one and is still one of my favourites! They have small and big smoothie bowls and you can also mix half chia, half berry or chocolate bowls. I also love the vegan pancakes, avo bread and Buddha bowls! The cafe is close to the river Alster so you can combine a visit with a nice river stroll.

MARSHALLSTREET CAFÈ

Aussie style breakfast close to the city centre.

I found this restaurant online and straightaway notices it’s Australian as the food looked cool and nicely decorated – There’s just something about how Australian restaurants prepare their food ;). I tried the chia pudding as they were out of bread (they normally have avo bread too!) and it was very yummy and nicely presented. The location is between the city centre and Speicherstadt so you can easily combine your shopping with breakfast here.

SALON WECHSEL DICH

Charming café with lots of waffles.

Super cute cafe with flowery wallpaper in a nice and more quiet neighbourhood. I love their oat lattes and they have a vegan waffle in their big waffle selection.

HANGING OUT

Bali style Café with the coolest interior.

This place is in a really nice neighbourhood (close to the university) and the owner designed the cafe inspired by Bali with swings and fun wooden interiors. They serve bowls and a vegan sweet and savory breakfast with avo bread and banana bread. Their açai is not my fave so I haven’t been in a while, but it’s definitely on my list to revisit soon!

WAS WIR WIRKLICH LIEBEN

This café translates to ‚What we really love‘ and offers a yummy vegan breakfast with bread, cheese and spreads, as well as an açai bowl in one of my favourite neighbourhoods, Eppendorf.

MOKIS GOODIES

Lots of options for true breakfast lovers.

This café used to be my most visited as it’s less than 100 meters from where I lived. They have a vegan breakfast which is super creative: it comes as an empty avo filled with two spreads, carrot spaghetti, nut bread, fruits and a small açai bowl. What more could you ask for, right?

There are also some restaurants I haven’t visited yet but they’re definitely on my list, so I wanted to include them for you.

MUTTERLAND

Cute food specialist to buy food for special occasions (they also have nice gift wrapping) and they have a few restaurants as part of the store concept such as the one in Eppendorf.

DINNER

You guys know I’m way more excited about breakfast and taking food pictures, so I decided to give you an overview of restaurants with amazing vegan options for dinner, without going into too much detail. Maybe I’ll take more dinner pictures in my upcoming visits! 🙂

AN VEGAN HOUSE

Vegan Vietnamese restaurant with some amazing big vegan bowls such as ‘Protein Bowl’ or ‘Balance Bowl’ and a fun selection of bowls to share. Some of my favourite small bowls are the vegan curry, fried seitan with peanut sauce, fried pear and avocado bites – But there are just too many good ones! They originally had only one restaurant in Winterhude but recently launched a second one.

FROINDLICHST

This is an absolute favourite of mine because they have all my favourite vegan food, especially vegan pizza (in really original flavours), vegan burgers and big salad bowls. The “Sophia” pizza was the best vegan pizza I ever had and if you’re not too full (which is impossible ;)), they serve vegan cake and ice cream – Even in the flavour “Franzbrötchen” which is a typical bread speciality from Hamburg that has cinnamon and is very delicious! They have two restaurants with the one in Winterhude being a bit more popular, but a little rude, and the one in Ottensen.

HAPPEN PAPPEN

Super original and a must try: Happen Pappen in the trendy and alternative “Sternschanze”. They have a changing menu and always update it on Facebook. On weekends they also have a vegan brunch.

APPLE & EVE

Super fun vegan junk food! I love their vegan burgers and vegan curry sausage! Alex and I love their “chicken” burger with a chicken and a veggie patty which is super yummy!

LAWAII POKE

One of my absolute favourite poké places with a nice location in Eppendorf, close to a bit of water to sit down next to and enjoy. I love them for having lots of fun mix-ins and a yummy vegan bowl with tofu. Also, all their sauces are vegan so there’s a lot to choose from! I love their zucchini noodles, mixed nuts and tofu!

VEGAN EAGLE

This is quite a unique restaurant which is a bit north of the city. They have more traditional German dishes but are completely vegan. The menu is rather small but it’s very well done and the serving sizes are huge.

This is just the first draft of this post, I’ll always add new my discoveries with you guys! And also please feel free to share your favourite restaurants here so I can check them and make this blog post as helpful as possible. If you visit one of these restaurants, let me know what you think! <3
