HOTLIST: BELMOND HOTEL SPLENDIDO, ITALY

I knew our trip to Portofino would be a special trip as it was our 10-year anniversary. But little did I know how special it was going to become… But let’s start at the beginning: I had been to Portofino once before, but that time without Alex. So I decided to show Alex this magical place for our anniversary.

We started our Portofino trip with a stay at the iconic Belmond Splendido, a 16th-century monastery converted into a luxurious hotel that is the epitomy of Italian glamour. The hotel has recently been renovated and every detail is perfect and the staff great and attentive. One of my favourite memories of the stay is Alex playing the piano in the wonderful, airy rooms.

The hotel is perched on the hillside of Portofino and, therefore, offers stunning views over the ocean below as well as the town. There is a beautiful little walkway that takes you from the hotel to Portofino in less than 10 minutes, which offers amazing views.

However, my two favourite features of the Belmond Splendido were the pool and the La Terazza restaurant. The saltwater infinity pool is set in lush gardens and offers sensational views over the coast and to relax you have the cutest little sun-loungers.

La Terazza is a glamorous yet tranquil restaurant that also offers stunning coastal views combined with the most delicious meals. Fun fact: Elizabeth Taylor got engaged in this very own restaurant. An omen? As you all probably know, I didn’t get engaged in the restaurant, but we came here the night after our engagement to celebrate our love and the new chapter of our lives. What a special hotel and what a special trip. I will never ever forget either.
