Monday Update #16

Despite the fact that I had promised you improvement, I am once more late with my Monday Update. Apparently the past three weeks without a break have taken their toll on me and I am literally 15 posts behind – 15 posts that I have merely drafted and that are waiting to be uploaded! But since the next month is going to be even crazier, I have blocked a whole day just for writing and editing!

R E V I E W: I started the past week in Palm Springs. From here we took our beloved Sixt USA car back to LA where we had rented a FeWo apartment in the middle of Hollywood. Hollywood sounds very glamourous but to be honest, it is the shadiest place I’ve stayed in during my time in LA. However, the apartment’s location was very central and the flat itself was just beautiful. Needless to say, I will tell you all about it in a separate HomeAway LA post. The last two days in LA went by in a flash. I would have loved to revisit everything but we still had to organize numerous things. We were one suitcase short, I had to return some of the pieces I had previously bought and so on. Therefore, we compromised between enjoying ourselves and organizing stuff. 🙂 Alex finally saw the Hollywood Sign and I managed to eat some donuts at California Donuts at last! 🙂 I will show you my favorite places in a short LA travel feature soon. Which ones are yours? When our time in the US came to a close, I had a lump in my throat… But since we flew directly on to Santorini from LA, I had one crying and one laughing eye.

Unfortunately there was an insanely long flight between us and Santorini and it was going to be the worst journey ever. The flight from LA to London started 4 hours delayed because the water system had and remained shut down – that included everything from the toilet’s flush to the coffee maker. After a series of LA’s best plumbers had tried and failed, the airline finally gave up and sent us on our way to Europe without coffee and with slightly lower hygiene standards – who needs to wash one’s hands? Luckily we would have had a five hours stop-over in London originally and therefore managed to still catch our next flight. Unfortunately we had to change airlines and since we had two pieces of excess luggage we had to run from counter to counter in London to make sure all our bags were safe and sound. We were ensured that everything was fine and went to the gate relieved, but when we were about to board the plane we were told:”No, we can only see one piece of luggage in the system for each of you – there is no excess luggage.”

And therefore, after 20 hours of travelling behind us we had to board the plane to Athens with a queasy feeling in our stomachs. In Athens we found out just by chance that our remaining two suitcase had not been checked through and we spend the short 20 minutes that we had between flights running around, getting our bags and rechecking them, as well as searching for the two missing suitcases. I was about to have a nervous breakdown when I was told that my big suitcase had disappeared from the system completely. However, in the end – it felt like a true miracle – everything resolved itself, all 4 bags reappeared in the computer system and when we sprinted through security after our gate had already closed, they let us board anyhow and we were finally on our way to Santorini. After 30 hours of travelling and with a 10 hours time difference we landed there at 6 am Greek time. We spent a couple of weird hours totally exhausted in a cave-like spa before we were finally allowed into our room at 10:30. We had 3 hours of sleep before we started our first day in Santorini.

Ooooook, after that horrible trip I have to hold an eulogy on Santorini. After I spent my holidays mostly in the US and Asia in the last years, I was blown away by Santorini, Greece and in general Europe’s versatility! We Europeans are lucky how much there is to experience around us without having to travel long distances – diverse landscapes, culture – Santorini was a great reminder of just how beautiful Europe is and I look forward to enjoying the European summer to its fullest.

Santorini had been on my bucket list for a long time and when I got the invitation from Intimissimi I couldn’t wait to go. During the short time in Santorini I took so many pictures with Intimissimi despite the fact that on one day we weren’t able to shoot because it was just too stormy. But I have never before taken this many photographs in such a short time. I felt so inspired by Santorini and I ran around like a child wanting to see everything and to share it all with you. I hope you will love the impressions as much as I! I will tell you more about the project with Intimissimi in an extra post – simply because there is so much to tell you about it! I can say this much: we had three amazing days with the Italian brand and I once more had the chance to see some old and new faces from all over the world.

P L A N S: Munich, Paris, Düsseldorf, Mallorca, Zurich, Cannes, Rhodos, the Maldives – it seems a bit surreal but those are my travel destinations for the next month! Accordingly, it will be an especially busy but also exciting month and I will keep you updated!:) First things first: First Alex and I will fly to Munich for the Press Days. We had planned to stay for two days but because of the strike at some of Germany’s airports I have an extra day in my hometown. And I couldn’t be any happier because as luck would have it it happens to be the one day my younger sister Laura is in town before she will fly to Australia for a medical internship – some times a strike has a good angle to it.

After Munich I will head back to Hamburg because my Sarenza blogger squad will visit me here. After we met up in Paris last month, we will shoot for Sarenza in Hamburg this time with my absolutely favorite photographer – my dear Alex!:)  In the future Alex will increasingly work on other projects and I am so proud of how great a photographer he has become. By now, Alex and I are photo junkies. Most of the Instagram pictures I take myself while Alex takes the ones for the blog. Therefore we usually run around Alex with his camera in his hand and me with my Samsung. We show each other motives all the time and develop new ideas together. I am so glad that we share this passion and it leaves me more and more inspired every day. Afterwards Alex and I will fly to Paris, where I will work on a great project with Lancôme. I can hardly believe that my first visit to Paris after years for my last birthday took place less than 12 months ago. I have been to Paris so many times since then that it starts to feel homely. After Paris we will fly to Düsseldorf but I will tell you about that in my next update.

N E W  I N: Traveling so much I haven’t had time to shop neither online nor on foot in the past week. I can hardly remember what Zara looks like from the inside. 😉 But I did get the highlights from the new Intimissimi line in Santorini and I wore them during the last days with pleasure. I still have a Vestiaire Collective and an Asos gift card and as soon as I am in Hamburg I have to browse a bit.

Und obwohl ich Besserung versprochen habe, bin ich diese Woche noch einmal etwas spät für mein Montag Update. Die letzten drei Wochen ohne einen Ruhetag haben sich bemerkbar gemacht und ich habe ernsthaft noch 15 Posts, die noch in Entwürfen liegen und die ich noch gar nicht veröffentlich habe! Da der nächste Monat noch verrückter wird, habe ich jetzt aber einen ganzen Tag geblockt, an dem ich wie eine verrückt schreiben und editieren werde!

R E V I E W: In die vergangene Woche bin ich in Palm Springs gestartet. Von hier aus sind wir mit unserem geliebten Leihwagen von Sixt USA zurück nach LA gefahren, wo wir über FeWo eine Wohnung in Hollywood gemietet hatten. Hollywood klingt eigentlich ultra glamourös, ist aber in Wahrheit der unangenehmste Ort, an dem ich während meiner Zeit in LA war. Die Lage war aber unheimlich gut und noch schöner war unsere tolle Wohnung, die ich euch natürlich in einer extra HomeAway LA Ausgabe zeigen werde. Die letzten zwei Tage in LA vergingen wie im Fluge. Ich wollte am liebsten noch einmal ALLES sehen, aber wir mussten auch so einiges organisieren. Wir brauchten einen neuen Koffer, ich wollte noch etwas umtauschen und und und. Also haben wir ein bisschen genossen und ein bisschen. organisiert. 🙂 Alex hat endlich zum ersten Mal das Hollywood Sign gesehen und ich konnte endlich Donuts bei California Donuts essen!:) Natürlich zeigte ich euch meine liebsten LA-Orte in einem Mini Travel Guide! Was meint ihr? Als sich unsere Zeit in Amerika dann dem Ende näherte hatte ich wirklich einen Kloß im Hals… Aber da es für uns von LA direkt nach Santorini ging, hätte ich ein weinendes und ein lachendes Auge.

Zwischen uns und Santorini lag jedoch eine unheimlich lange Flugreise, die sich als die unangenehmste Reisezeit, die ich je hatte, entpuppte. Der Flug von LA nach London begann bereits mit vier Stunden Verspätung, da sämtliche Wasseranlagen ausgefallen war und somit Spülung, Wasserhahn und Kaffe-Anlagen außer Kraft gesetzt waren. Nachdem gefühlt sämtliche Mechaniker Los Angeles ihr Glück versucht hatten, hat das Personal schließlich aufgehen und wir sind mit kaputter Maschine und leicht eingeschränkter Hygiene in Richtung Europa gestartet. Zum Glück hatten wir ursprünglich 5 Stunden  Aufenthalt in London und haben so noch unsern nächsten Flug geschafft. Wir hatten jedoch leider einen Airline Wechsel und da wir zweiStück Übergepäck hatten, sind wir in London wie verrückt von Schalter nach Schalter gelaufen in der Hoffnung Informationen zu unserem Gepäck zu bekommen. Uns wurde versichert alles sei gut und so sind wir beruhigt in Richtung Gate gegangen. Beim Einstieg ins Flugzeug hieß es dann – “Nein, für sie gibt es jeweils nur einen Koffer im System – Ihre Zweitgepäckstücke sehen wir nicht.”

Und so sind wir nach bereits fast 20 Stunden Reisezeit mit ungutem Gefühl in den Flieger gestiegen und nach Athen geflogen. In Athen haben wir nur durch Zufall rausgefunden, dass unsere verbleibenden zwei Gepäckstücke nicht durchgecheckt wurden und so wurden unsere 20 Minuten Puffer bis zum Boarding ein verrückter Spießrutenlauf, in dem wir zwei Koffer eingesammelt, eincheckt und nach unseren fehlenden Gepäckstücken gesucht haben. Nach dem Overnight Flug ist für mich zwischenzeitlich eine Welt zusammengebrochen als es zwischendurch hieß, mein großer Koffer sei sogar komplett aus dem System. Aber am Ende wurde wie durch ein Wunder alles aufgeklärt, es wurden vier Koffer im System in Richtung Santorini gesichtet und obwohl unser Gate schon geschlossen war, als wir durch den Sicherheitscheck sprinteten, haben wir tatsächlich alles geschafft und sind griechische Zeit 6:00 morgens mit 10 Stunden Zeitunterschied  und nach mehr als 30 Stunden Reise in Santorini gelandet. Es folgten ein paar verrückte Stunden in einem höhlenartiger Spa, bis wir um 10:30 endlich ein Zimmer beziehen konnten und uns drei Stunden Schlaf gegönnt haben, bevor wir in unseren ersten Tag Santorini gestartet sind.

Sooo, nach der Anreise aber jetzt eine Lobeshymne an Santorini. Nachdem ich in den letzten Jahren immer wieder in die USA und nach Asien gereist bin, war ich überwältigt von Santorini, Griechenland und allgemein der Vielseitigkeit Europas! Wie viel wir Europäer mit kurzer Reisezeit erleben können – unterschiedlichste Landschaften, Kulturen – Santorini war ein wundervoller Reminder daran wie wundervoll Europa ist und ich möchte den europäischen Sommer unbedingt in vollen Zügen genießen!

Santorini stand schon ewig auf meiner Bucket List und als ich die Einladung von Intimissimi erhalten habe, konnte ich es kaum erwarten. In der kurzen Zeit in Santorini habe ich unheimlich viel für Intimissimi fotografiert und an einem Tag mussten wir leider aussetzten, da wir so starke Böen hatten. Aber wisst ihr was, ich habe noch nie in so kurzer Zeit so viel fotografiert. Ich hab mich von Santorini unendlich inspiriert gefühlt und bin wie ein kleines Kind voller Aufregung hin und her gelaufen und wollte ALLES sehen – Und ich wollte auch alles mit euch teilen und ich hoffe euch gefallen die Eindrücke so gut wie mir! Ich erzähle euch noch mehr über das Projekt mit Intimissimi in einem extra Blog Post – Einfach weil es sooo viel zu erzählen gibt! Es waren jedenfalls drei wundervolle Tage mit der italienischen Brand und ich habe endlich wieder ein paar bekannte Gesichter und neue Gesichter von überall in der Welt getroffen.

P L A N S: München, Hamburg, Paris, Düsseldorf, Mallorca, Zürich, Cannes, Rhodos, Malediven – Es kommt mir beinahe etwas verrückt vor, aber das sind meine nächsten Reiseziele und diese sind alle im kommenden Monat! Es wird also ein besonders arbeitsintensiver, aber auch aufregender Monat und ich werde euch natürlich alles in Detail erzählen sobald es soweit ist!:) Jetzt erst einmal zur kommen Woche. Als erstes geht es nach München, da Alex und ich die Press Days in München besuchen. Wir wollten eigentlich zwei Tage bleiben, aber durch einen Lotsenstreik an manchen deutschen Flughäfen habe ich einen Tag in meiner Heimat gewonnen – Und die Freude könnte nicht größer sein, denn so kann ich noch einmal meine kleine Schwester Laura drücken, bevor sie im Rahmen ihres Medizinstudiums für ein Praktikum nach Australien geht! Manchmal hat so ein Streik also auch etwas Gutes!;)

Nach München geht es dann nach Hamburg – Da meine Sarenza Bloggersquad mich in Hamburg besucht. Nachdem wir letzten Monat ein Treffen in Paris im Rahmen des Sarenza Projektes hatten, treffen wir uns nächste Woche in Hamburg und wir shooten für Sarenza mit meinem absoluten Lieblingsfotografen – Meinem liebsten Alex!:) Alex arbeitet zukünftig noch häufiger für andere Projekte und ich bin so unheimlich stolz darauf, was für ein guter Fotograf er geworden ist! Alex und ich sind mittlerweile Foto Junkies. Die Meisten meiner Instagram Bilder fotografiere ich und Alex knipst für die Blogpost und so läuft Alex mit seiner Kamera und ich mit meiner Samsung los und wir zeigen uns gegenseitig immer neue Motive und entwickeln neue Ideen – Ich bin so froh, dass wir diese Leidenschaft miteinander teilen und ich fühle mich von Tag zu Tag inspirierter. Anschließend fliegen Alex und ich für zwei Tage nach Paris, wo ich an einem tollen Projekt mit Lancôme arbeite. Ich kann es kaum glauben, dass mein ersten Paris Besuch nach Jahren zu meinem Geburtstag im vergangenen Jahr noch nicht einmal 12Monate her ist und ich war seitdem so oft in Paris, dass ich mich dort mittlerweile schon unheimlich heimelig fühle.  Nach Paris geht es dann nach Düsseldorf, aber davon erzähle ich euch in meinem nächsten Update.

N E W  I N: Vor lauter reisen, habe ich in der letzten Woche weder online noch offline einen Shop betreten. Ich erinnere mich auch kaum noch daran, wie es bei Zara von innen aussieht.;) Ich habe aber in Santorini die Highlights der neuen Intimissimi Santorini Linie bekommen ihn habe diese in den letzten Tagen mit Freuden getragen. Ich habe aber noch einen Vestiaire Collective und einen Asos Gutschein und muss unbedingt sobald ich in Hamburg bin ein bisschen stöbern.
